The pump works by cooling the surrounding environment (groundwater, soil or outside air) and transferring the heat to the heating system. Using 1 kWh of electricity, it produces 3 to 4 kW of heat. This means that at a rate of CZK 2 per 1 kW/h of electricity, the pump "eats" CZK 2 per hour but earns CZK 6 to 8. If we feed one part of the energy into the heat pump to drive the compressor, it will produce roughly three to four parts to heat the house.
The heat factor (COP) is an indication of the quality of a pump, indicating how efficient the pump is under certain outdoor conditions. It is the ratio of energy delivered to the heat pump to the ratio of energy "extracted" by the pump. The heating factor varies in relation to the outdoor temperature. It can be as low as 4.5 or less in very severe night frost. If the outside negative temperature drops so low that the heat pump is no longer sufficient to meet the temperature requirements of the house, an electric coil is connected in the circuit to assist or completely replace the pump function.
